Program Associate (Full-time)

The Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) is a non-profit organization that works to help women, educators and policymakers understand the important issues surrounding women’s retirement income, including Social Security, savings and investments, caregiving, divorce, widowhood, pay equity, healthcare and long-term care. As the only organization to focus exclusively on the unique financial challenges that women face, WISER seeks to improve opportunities for all women to secure adequate retirement income.

WISER’s Program Associate works closely with WISER’s President, Director of Programs and other staff to help carry out the mission and day-to-day operation of the organization.  Primary responsibilities include working on the implementation and development of WISER programs, grants and resource materials; assisting with office management functions; and providing writing and research support for WISER’s education materials and communication efforts through WISER’s website and social media.

This position requires an ability to work full-time, Monday-Friday in WISER’s Washington, DC office during the business hours of 9:00am-5:00pm. Position is available starting immediately.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a listing of the key duties and responsibilities of this position, and the skills, experience and knowledge required for the employee in this position.  Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate. WISER reserves the right to assign work in other areas of the organization to equalize or balance the workload, cover absences, or for other business needs of WISER.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with grant projects and partner network activities, such as: assisting with content development for grant-related resource materials, workshop presentations, and toolkits; helping to promote and disseminate WISER resources and materials among network partners and the general public; and contributing to the preparation of grant reports and proposals.
  • Participate in the writing and editing of newsletters, fact sheets, publications, blogs and other WISER materials.
  • Provide office management and administrative support, including but not limited to answering phones, responding to outside inquiries and requests for information, filling publications orders, assisting with travel arrangements for WISER President and assisting with WISER event planning logistics.
  • Provide research support for presentations, fact sheets, and other WISER resources.
  • Assist with content development for WISER website and social media.
  • Serve as a representative of WISER at meetings, hearings, conferences, and other events, as needed.
  • Follow news, current events and policy initiatives related to WISER’s mission.
  • Position also offers opportunities to participate in workshops and other events once sufficient experience in the position has been gained.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, network partners, and the general public.
Minimum Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Nonprofit work experience is a plus. The employee should possess basic knowledge of or demonstrated interest in, policies relating to personal finance and retirement planning, specifically as they pertain to women in the United States. Experience working with websites and social media tools is a plus.  Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, the employee should have strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation based on experience.  Benefits include healthcare premium coverage, dental insurance, Roth IRA savings contributions, and Metro stipend.
